Madam X Fly
The Madam X fly pattern is versatile hopper fly and a truly unique pattern. It can also be used as a dry fly attractor. It was invented by author, guide and fly tyer Doug Swisher in the 1980’s, who originally developed this fly for fishing the Bitterroot River located in Southwestern Montana and boasts diverse waters and excellent hatches.
Overall the fly is a very rounded attractor pattern. It imitates hoppers and large stoneflies and can adapted for cicada, crickets, dragonflies and other large types of insects. The original consisted of yellow ribbing but additional colors were later incorporated into the body.
The parachute version of the fly provides increased visibility.
