Description
Blue Wing Olive Spinner / Blue Winged Olive Spinner
The Blue Wing Olive Spinner fly pattern is an imitation of mayfly at the spinner stage of life. When the dun arrives at the banks, trees or bushes it sloughs into a spinner, a sexually mature adult. It is at this time that the male and females return toward the water and mate in mid air. They eventually fall dead on the water surface upon which the trout can easily feast on them.
The fly should be fished on the surface and usually when the spinner falls, typically from around mid-afternoon to the time it is completely dark. However, early season spinner falls tend to occur earlier in the day than late season spinner falls so adjust timing accordingly.
Usually available in the following hook sizes: 10 | 12 | 14 | 16 | 18 | 20 | 22 | 24 | 26 | 28
